I love this book, and believe it gives a terrific foundation for reading, but did wonder what you do when it's completed? We go to the library to supplement the reading lessons, but there are still "rules" and other reading parameters out there they need to learn. What does the author suggest for "after"? (My daughter is 5 and loves this book!)

After the reading lesson is complete, what you can do is, to let your child to pick a book and read by herself. While she reads her book, make questions for her and see if she understands what is going on in the story. After finish with the reading, she has to rewrite the story with her own words. Then you check the spelling. If she makes mistake in her spelling, correct it and she has to memories it.

I have found many lower grade reading books that schools have discarded in 2nd hand stores. they have short stories and some times questions at the end of each story. My son has moved through these and is reading quiet well now. I listened to him read for the first few months and helped him with words he struggled with and with any new sounds not included in the reading lesson. he is doing fine on his own. we have had a great experince with the reading lesson. we have been sharing it with all our young family members and others.

I have not yet used it. I used ABeka with my first child, but it is too much for my younger one. So I am thinking of switching! I agree with pp that you should have your child read and ask questions. I have an excellent reading program to recommend that does all that for you. You could do the "Emergent Reading" program from Heart of Dakota. She has all the questions for the different books and she uses Blooms Taxonomy for the questions. The other wonderful thing is that she has excellent books picked out and the reading level increases gradually! She actually recommends TRL in her manuals. Here is the link if you are interested: www.heartofdakota.com/emerging-reader.phpSucces!
