my 6 year old is having trouble reading

My 6 year old daughter is having trouble reading, the teachers have brought this to my attention, and i am having trouble teaching her to read, she understand her sounds, but cant combine her sounds together to make a word, I was wondering if anyone have and suggestions on how to help her.

My 71/2 year old cannot read either. I am wondering if it is because i did not try teaching him at home. I left it all for the school.
